Roscón de Reyes: Discover the Tradition and Flavour at Rosy Cakes Madrid
Welcome to Rosy Cakes Madrid, the place where pastries become art and every bite is a story to discover. In this post, dive into the charm of the "Roscón de Reyes", a culinary treasure that fuses centuries of tradition with the modern touch that characterises us. With Rosy Cakes, the magic of Epiphany comes to your table in a unique way.
History and Significance:
Roscón de Reyes is much more than a dessert; it is a symbol of the arrival of the Three Kings and the festive closing of Christmas. Although we don't produce it at Rosy Cakes, we love to share the rich history and meaning of this traditional treat.
Centennial Roots:
Originating in the Middle Ages, the Roscón has evolved over time, becoming an essential element of celebrations in many cultures. Its circular shape symbolises family togetherness and continuity, while nuts and candied fruit add a touch of sweetness and texture.
Homemade Roscón de Reyes recipe:
Ingredients:
- 500 g of strong flour
- 75 g sugar
- 10 g salt
- 25 g fresh yeast
- 200 ml warm milk
- 2 eggs
- 75 g butter at room temperature
- Orange and lemon zest
- Candied fruit and almonds for decoration
- Icing sugar for sprinkling
How to do:
- Dissolve the yeast in the warm milk and add a pinch of sugar. Leave to stand for 15 minutes.
- In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar, salt, eggs and orange and lemon zest.
- Add the yeast and milk mixture to the bowl and mix well.
- Add the butter and knead the dough for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Cover the dough and let it rest until it doubles in size.
- Knead again to remove the air and form into a doughnut shape.
- Place on a baking tray, decorate with candied fruit and almonds.
- Leave to stand until it has increased in size again.
- Preheat the oven to 180°C and bake the cake for about 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
- Remove from the oven, leave to cool and sprinkle with icing sugar before serving.
